So, I have been a lurktastic lurker recently. I have actually been on LJ, I just haven't been reading SPN (well... I've read maybe three SPN fics in the past three weeks, but that's barely enough to count) or commenting on very much at all. Sorry! I am still totally stalking you all (<3!), it's just that I am so far in lurker headspace that I'm not really initiating much communication right now. At some point my lurkerness will wear off a little more and then I will stop being quite so lame.

I think my lack of SPN fic reading may be because of the lack of happy-fuzzy-ness of the end of season three. My angst whore side has kind of wandered off somewhere recently, so I'm theorizing that the main reason I am not rocking SPN so hard at the moment is because the SPN side of my brain has been left paused in angst mode. Presumably my brain will revert back to normal when either A) my inner angst whore comes back or B) Dean comes back. Whichever is soonest.

In the mean time, I am on another SGA fic kick. I retreated from angst to the fandom of GIANT GEEKS IN LOVE. Presumably there is SGA angst going on somewhere, but srsly I have just been reading a zillion retellings of John and Rodney's epic dork!romance. Sci-fi references, science jokes and sarcasm? Yes plz!

In other news: omg I am failing so hard at keeping up with big bang fic. /o\ But hey, maybe by this time next year I'll have finished reading last year's big bang fic, and sometime the year after that I'll get done with this year's! xP

I don't know if any of you will have noticed, but I have been somewhat of the fail when it comes to following my friendslist the past few days. So. Um. Apologies if I've missed anything important! I have skimmed most entries, but I haven't really done any commenting. Not that I comment all that much anyway, so maybe you haven't noticed. But I thought I would mention just in case.

See, I started teaching myself Ruby (ETA: It seems like I confused everyone by not explaining what Ruby is. Way to go, me! *facepalms* Ruby is a programming language), and I have never done any programming before. And I sometimes get pretty, um, absorbed when I've just started new things. So that kind of ate all of my free time for a few of days, until the shiniest of the shiny!new had worn off. (I'm half tempted to copy and paste chunks of very basic Ruby code here point out what I have been doing, but that would probably be incredibly boring, so I shall spare you.)

Then the day before yesterday my computer was playing up, and I got kind of paranoid because I haven't backed up my hard drive recently, so I was all 'Must copy my vid collection to external hard drive before shutting down!!!' (yes, my vid collection is the thing I was most frightened for. I have vids that are not longer available do download in there! I have not made a back up since before I started collecting vids seriously! *distressed hands*) and as my external hard drive is wireless and the information had to transfer via the wireless network it was sloooooooow. It took, like, seven hours. Although to be fair, my vid collection is just over 10GB big now (Ha! I remember back when I was a baby vid fan, reading about someone who had 300 vids on their external hard drive, and I was like '300?! O__O'. Now I have around 310-320 myself, and would not actually be surprised if that doubled over the next year and a half or so. My obsessiveness. Let me show you it).

As I didn't want to slow it down further by using the network for surfing the web at the same time, I just let my computer be for the rest of the evening, but! Without the internet to distract me I managed to focus on reading actual books for more than five minutes! I have now finished Throne of Jade by Naomi Novik! \o/ I think I may even have liked it better than I liked the first book in the series. DRAGONS. <3<3<3 I know a few of my flisters are reading/have read the series, and Temeraire and Laurence are really settling in to the special part of my heart for really awesome fictional people (dragons are people too!) now, so if anyone feels like sharing some Temeraire squee with me, I am in the right mood for it. *g*

Hi guys! First, a quick note to say: I was feeling pretty apathetic about the LJ Advisory Board election, and figured other JL-ers would probably pick out a pretty okay representative for me anyway, and I was too lazy to read through the manifestos and bother to chose. But I've changed my mind, and I will be voting.

If there's anyone else on my flist who is feeling how I was, they should take three minutes to read this. And if you can only be bothered to follow one of the links to more information from there, I'd go with the fandom_votes link.

Most of you have probably already watched this, because it was recced all over the place, but I just can't help but rec it too. It's a bunch of theme tunes from other shows, remade with Supernatural clips, which is not a new idea, but a) in this case it's been done really well and b) she's tied the whole thing together by having Sam and Dean be the ones watching the intros. I only recognise, like, three of the theme tunes she's used (I am so uncultured), but I still thought it was hilarious. I think this is a vid that might work for non-vid-watchers too. IDK.

So after sol_se's multi fandom vid Filthy Mind and now this, I'm starting to think I have a thing for well done free-association vids. Sometimes it's fun to try and follow a path of pure visual links and echoes, rather than a narrative or commentary. And plus, the theme danegen has chosen here - being caught/trapped - works well in terms of atmosphere building. NOM NOM NOM TASTY ATMOSPHERE. *chews*

Deeeean! *clings* The audio doesn't start until a couple of seconds after the video here, which confused me a little upon first watch (it probably didn't help that I'd had problems downloading a different vid and then not having the audio work a few days before I first watched this one), so don't worry about that. Um. I'm not entirely sure how to talk about this vid, because it is too awesome. A mainly season two centric vid (there is definitely S1 footage, but if there is any S3 footage, I didn't notice it) and it is made of about 400% angst. Which is not mathematically correct, because there are way more than four seconds of angst for every one second of vid time here. Asdfjk. ANGST. This is another one of those vids which I consider a bit like visiting the inside of Dean's head. In this case, the part with all the pain and the fear and the omg owww, which Dean himself tries to avoid visiting as much as possible. Except he usually fails because... well, you've seen canon, right? ANGST.

Asylum time! \o/ I'll catch up with my flist again on Monday. Or if I can find free wi-fi anywhere, before then, but that's not all that likely.

So I've been meaning to put together a long SPN vid recs set by picking out some of my favourites from my entire SPN vid collection for quite a while, but of course being me, I spent a long time not getting around to it. xP However! I found out my impromptu vid show back at Wincon UK (if you think I can spend the weekend in the company of fen without trying to get them all to watch vids at some point, you don't know my relationship with vids) helped convert castalie to the way of vids! :D In celebration, I decided to stop procrastinating and get started on this recs set. Um. I managed one of those two? I tried to limit myself to one vid per vidder here, just for the sake of cutting down post length, but as you can see, I don't always have that much self control.

It’s probably worth noting that in some of these recs I kind of go into a little depth on my interpretation of the vid. If I start talking in detail about particular parts of a vid and what they do for me, you might want to go and watch first and then read afterwards. I’ll probably make more sense that way.
